The Lego brand has made a significant name for itself within the game titles industry using its widely successful series of action-adventure titles. And the latest in the lines are Lego Battles Ninjago.Lego Battles Ninjago Lego Battles Ninjago

The actual Lego Battles Ninjago doesn’t look great; offers zero challenge; doesn’t utilize enough strategic elements.

Cons of Lego Battles Ninjago

Building your ninja and skeleton forces can be fun; the animated cutscenes look great; the stylus and touchscreen really are a perfect fit for this type of game.

Pros of Lego Battles Ninjago

With a graphical overhaul and several tweaks, this game might be able to briefly make the kids forget about their desires to catch those Pokemon. However, like that space jet you attempted to construct when you were five, this game is most likely better off forgotten.

Branching the Lego brand off into RTS territory may be beneficial, and one that, sometimes, can be seen bearing some fruit. Unfortunately, you will find way too many problems to make this game worth recommending.

Some might argue that the game’s intended younger audience might be more appreciative of the game’s lessened difficulty, but I’d respond that even today’s youth would find this title’s lack of challenge to be detrimental.

This means that the frequent beat-downs you’ll hand out due to your superior numbers may prevent the game from ever offering much of challenging.

And that brings me to one other issue: whatever marauding gang you’re controlling, whether it be ninja or skeleton, is a lot more powerful than your foe. And since the game ensures to never overwhelm you with a lot of enemies, you’ll always outnumber your opponent.

Unfortunately, a sizable portion of Lego Battles Ninjago can’t even be considered RTS, because you’re simply tasked with wandering around a sizable map with a preset group of soldiers, eliminating any enemies unlucky enough to walk in front of your marauding gang.

Lego Battles Ninjago A Quick Overview 2825 Lego Battles NinjagoAnother instance of where Lego Battles Ninjago appears to be on the right track, but ultimately fails to deliver is with its gameplay. Building up your ninja and skeleton armies via resource gathering is fun, and the DS’s touch-screen and stylus offer the perfect control method for this brand of game.

Remember when you were five, and you had plans to build that awesome space jet out of Lego blocks? Only if you actually put the blocks together you noticed that your little brother had chewed on many of them, you were not able to find half of the pieces you needed when you first imagined that awesome jet.

One example of this can be seen when the game begins. Initially, players will be introduced to the story through slick animated cut scenes, that will frequently reappear between levels to further the plot. And just like said cutscenes look, their value is completely eclipsed by the title’s underwhelming in-game graphics.

So a game title that tasks players with building up their forces (beginning with constructing various Lego buildings) to go and destroy their enemies’ armies is an ideal venue for strategic real-time battles. Unfortunately, players will discover that for everything Lego Battles Ninjago does right, it comes with an even larger and more glaring problem at the office.

This new format that Lego has decided to branch off into with Lego Battles Ninjago constitutes a lot of sense on the surface. Traditionally, playing with Legos has more often than not been about the creation and eventual destruction of whatever object its user was interested in.

Lego Battles Ninjago Review

Yet, the iconic foundations apparently aren’t content to simply run, jump, and lightsaber-slash their way to the top of the platforming food chain. No, Lego has bold plans to conquer other gaming genres, and with the Battles titles, they’ve decided to take their colorful inter-locking blocks in an entirely new direction: real-time strategy.
